Rossborough becomes island's first chartered insurance broker
03 Sep 2012
R A Rossborough (Insurance Brokers) Limited has become the first company in Jersey to achieve the prestigious Chartered Insurance Brokers status. This celebrated accolade is awarded in recognition of a company's professionalism and commitment to raising standards of knowledge, capability and ethical practice.
To be considered for the coveted Chartered status, which is described by the Chartered Insurance Institute as the 'gold standard of excellence and integrity', Rossborough had to satisfy a rigorous set of criteria. These measures have been designed to ensure that customers of Chartered Insurance Brokers receive the highest possible levels of service, delivered professionally, by highly qualified staff.
According to the Chartered Insurance Institute, 'Chartered firms must ensure staff members acquire and retain the necessary knowledge and skills to deliver the highest quality service. They must also work in an ethical manner that places clients' interests at the heart of the advice they give'.
Alan Dunn, director, and Peter Sims, human resources officer at Rossborough, were instrumental in the company achieving this standard. 'Securing the Chartered Insurance Brokers status is a landmark for the company in this, our 75th year in Jersey. We have always prided ourselves on being thoroughly professional in everything we do and offering the best possible customer service. To receive formal external recognition for this is absolutely fantastic and testament to our hard working staff,' said Mr Dunn.
Rossborough has been operating in Jersey since 1936. It employs 70 staff, of which all brokers are members of the Chartered Insurance Institute. 30 members of the Rossborough broking team hold a professional insurance qualification with a further 20 currently studying towards one.
'At Rossborough we recognise the importance of our people and that's why we have a thorough professional development scheme of which all staff members are part of. We ensure that every team member receives the appropriate training and is entered for relevant exams. Our focus is always on delivering the highest levels of customer service and training is key to ensuring we maintain these standards,' added Mr Sims.
Commenting on the award, Stuart Reid, chair of the Chartered Insurance Institute insurance broking faculty, said, 'R A Rossborough (Insurance Brokers) Limited has shown an ongoing commitment in developing professionalism in the insurance sector. We are delighted that they have now achieved Chartered Insurance Brokers status, demonstrating that brokers are proactively striving for professionalism, both as a driver of competitive advantage and as an important means of building confidence and trust.'
