Rossborough Healthcare’s Free Health Check event returns for two days
08 May 2015
Rossborough Healthcare's popular Free Health Check event will return this year with increased capacity and a particular focus on heart disease and diabetes - two major issues affecting islanders' health.
Rossborough Healthcare is partnering with local medical professionals and charities to provide two days of free health checks. Holding the event over two days will allow nearly 400 islanders to access a comprehensive range of tests and specialist advice. The event will be held on Tuesday 2nd and Wednesday 3rd June at the Radisson Blu hotel.
This year's event coincides with the Arrhythmia Alliance Heart Rhythm Week (1 - 5th June). Rossborough Healthcare has teamed up with Jersey's Consultant Cardiologist, Dr Andrew Mitchell, and his specialist cardiology team at Jersey General Hospital to provide a full and comprehensive range of tests, together with some innovative new heart screening technology.
Dr Mitchell said, 'After seeing what Rossborough Healthcare did with their event last year, we were keen to have an even greater involvement this year. The event takes place during Heart Rhythm week and this year the theme is "Detect, Protect, Correct". One in four of us will develop a heart rhythm problem and many of these conditions can remain undetected until problems like stroke or heart failure occur. By detecting heart problems early we can help protect against complications and also help correct abnormal heart rhythms. Jersey has been leading the way with Digital Health innovation and at this year's event our heart team will be offering participants the chance to see some exciting new digital health technologies that are not yet available in the UK.'
The free event is open to all islanders and will include a number of testing stations including cardiac, respiratory, spirometry, electrocardiography and diabetes.
Experienced, qualified medical professionals from Health Plus and Lister Surgeries will be able to give immediate feedback on test results in a professional and confidential environment.
'Our Free Health Check event in 2014 reached maximum capacity in a very short space of time. In response to its popularity we are extending this year's event to two days and offering twice as many islanders access to specialist medical checks. Regular health checks can increase the chances of the early detection of underlying health issues. Encouraging people to be proactive with their health in this way is something we feel passionate about, so along with our medical partners, sponsors and charities we are delighted to be delivering another comprehensive event with increased capacity,' said Richard Clarke of Rossborough Healthcare.
'This year there will be greater access to more detailed tests to help with the detection and prevention of diabetes and heart conditions in particular. It is great that we have the support of Dr Mitchell and his team again this year, meaning we are able to give people access to an excellent range of tests and specialist advice, backed up by advice from local GPs,' added Mr Clarke.
The event is being sponsored by AXA-PPP International, Aetna, Simplyhealth and Denplan, some of the island's most established providers of private medical and dental insurance policies. Representatives from local charities Diabetes Jersey, Jersey Heart Support Group and the British Heart Foundation (Jersey) will also be on hand to offer advice and support. In addition, representatives from Wellbeing World will support the event with lifestyle and nutritional advice to those in attendance.
Exciting new heart screening technology from Clasado Biosciences and Cardiocity will also be on display.
Individuals wishing to attend the event must complete a simple pre-registration on the Rossborough Healthcare event website. Registrations will be taken in 15 minute blocks and individuals can expect to take no more than one hour to go through all tests / GP review. Time slots will be available 08.00 - 12.45 and 13.45 - 18.15 on Tuesday 2nd, and 07.00 - 12.45 and 13.45 - 17.15 on Wednesday 3rd.
Islanders will be able to book multiple slots for family members, but event organisers do require one registration per individual. Regrettably, the event will not be open to anyone under the age of 18 and the event organisers have respectfully asked that anyone currently under the care of Jersey's heart team does not attend the event.
To provide an accurate consultation, attendees will be asked to fill in a basic health questionnaire during pre-registration to bring along to their designated appointments.
