Meet our Private Clients claims team

We’ve introduced a new specialist claims team to our Private Clients offering.

Although the team is new, the faces are familiar ones, both Elly Goodridge (who is based in Jersey) and Elysia Gillease (in Guernsey) have been with Rossborough for many years and know our clients well.

This specialist team is available to clients who may have complex requirements or who simply need help in navigating the claims process – they’re here to make the client claims journey seamless and stress-free.

We caught up with Elysia and Elly to find out more about the team and why they love doing what they do:

Tell us a little about the wider Private Clients team and what makes you different from other insurers.

Being a part of Gallagher, one of the largest insurance brokers globally, we have access to a wide range of insurers which helps us tailor policies to fit our clients’ lifestyles, and also to meet some of our client’s more unique requirements. We offer a bespoke approach to personal insurance needs and provide a dedicated handler for clients so they know who to contact straight away if they have any queries.

What is the role of the specialist Private Client claims team?

To provide help and guidance to clients when they have an incident or claim if the claim isn’t progressing on the timeframe we’d expect, if they are complex, or if the client just needs a bit of extra help. We provide the link between the client and the insurer. We know how stressful making a claim can be, and we’re on hand to make the process as easy and stress-free as possible.

What made you choose a career in insurance?

Elysia: When I finished University I spent three years administering pensions before I decided it definitely was not for me! I wanted a change and saw the opportunity at Rossborough in 2015, and the rest is history.

Elly: After joining Rossborough in 2010 I was quickly encouraged to study for professional qualifications. With the support of the company with my studies, and enjoying dealing with customers by problem-solving in claims, I soon knew this was the career for me. Moving to the Private Clients team really helped me to step this up as I’ve now gained my Advance Diploma in Insurance and am now Claims Manager for the team.

What do you love most about your role?

Elysia: I love dealing with clients and really enjoy the variety of the role – no two days are the same.

Elly: Dealing with customers, problem-solving, and trying to help our clients to get the best
outcomes.

Do you have any examples of times when you feel you’ve really helped a client?

Elysia: I’ve had a few claimants recently who live alone and needed a bit of extra guidance and help to ease the pressure and stress of dealing with large or particularly difficult claim by themselves. Knowing that I am helping to make the process a little easier for them and seeing how grateful and appreciative they are for the help makes it a very rewarding role.

Elly: I dealt with a claim for a collapsed wall, which initially didn’t look as though it would be covered by the insurer as they were struggling to find cover under the policy as the cause of the collapse was unknown. I appointed a stonemason who could provide probable causes for the collapse and I referred this to the loss adjuster and as a result, the claim was paid out. Sometimes you have to use your initiative to deliver the best service for clients.

Why is it so important that islanders with very valuable or unique assets speak to a bespoke broker and not just buy off-the-shelf insurance?  

Many of the off-the-shelf policies have very weird and wonderful conditions and exclusions that are not necessarily clear or obvious to clients until it comes to making a claim. It’s important to speak to a broker as we know the policies and products we sell. We will do our best to source a policy that fully meets the requirements and will outline any policy conditions and/or exclusions so clients always know where they stand with their cover. As a local broker, we understand the local environment, local quirks, and local suppliers, and yet being part of the wider Gallagher group, we have access to an unparalleled range of products and risk solutions.

What would you say to anyone considering a career in insurance?

Elysia: Go for it! There are so many different paths to go down when it comes to insurance that you are bound to find something that you find really interesting and enjoy, whether it be Claims, Private Clients, Commercial, or even something on the Underwriting side of things.

Elly: It’s not only an interesting and rewarding career, Rossborough is also a very driven company where you can really chart your own progress with what you want to put into it. Gallagher is a hugely encouraging business that wants to do nothing more than promote and nurture their own staff - what more could you want from a career and an employer?
