Rossborough supports Jersey Trees for Life with volunteering session

On Thursday 1st June, we joined Jersey Trees for Life’s volunteering session at Le Cotil de Vibert - a small woodland in St Ouen, Jersey. The session was part of our three-year sponsorship of the Jersey Trees for Life Mont Vibert Wilding Project, which commenced at the end of 2022.

Jersey Trees for Life is a charity committed to planting, conserving, and protecting trees in Jersey while raising awareness of their ecological and social importance. Through the Mont Vibert Wilding Project, the charity focuses on re-wilding and preserving indigenous tree species, creating a biodiverse woodland tolerant of the effects of global warming whilst also attracting bees and other local wildlife.

During the winter storms, several large trees came down in the woodland, making it unsafe for volunteers to access the site. However, we are now catching up for lost time and have been hard at work preparing the site for planting season. During the volunteering session, we cut back bracken and young sycamores to provide much-needed light and space.

Alex Morel, Chief Executive Officer at Jersey Trees for Life, also ran some educational activities during the day, which our volunteer team loved participating in.

Our Business Development Executive, Stephen Rafferty, said: “Our involvement in the Mont Vibert Wilding Project sees us advance our Rossborough ESG programme, which aligns with the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“The SDGs are an urgent call for action by all UN countries, recognising that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth.

“We’re very proud to be involved with the Mont Vibert Wilding project and look forward to continuing our work with Jersey Trees for Life to create a resilient, biodiverse woodland.”

Shauna Claydon, one of our Account Managers who attended the session, added: “It was an amazing experience – the Jersey Trees for Life team were very informative about what we were doing and how it will help the area. It will be great to see the progress made next time we go to the site, and I can’t wait to take my family to show them our hard work.”

Michelle Moore, our Compliance and Operations Director, added: “The team from Jersey Trees for Life were so knowledgeable and interesting. Seeing the positive difference we made in such a short time was great.”
