An Excess is the amount you have to pay in the event of a claim on your home or motor insurance policy.
The purpose of Excess Protection Insurance is to refund the excess you have paid when it cannot be recovered from any other source.
For example:
If you have a £500 excess on your motor insurance and you have a claim for £1,000, you will have to pay £500 towards the cost of repair. This amount is usually paid by you to the repairer. If the excess cannot be recovered from any other source, for example, a third party, the Excess Protection Insurance will pay the £500 back to you.
