A Rising Star in Insurance: Abigail Mercier Shines at Jersey Finance Awards

What a night at the Jersey Finance Rising Stars Awards! We’re incredibly proud to celebrate Abigail Mercier, from our Healthcare team, who took home the Insurance Award.

Her commitment to clients and colleagues truly stood out and she is certainly a shining example of the talent driving our industry forward.

James Anderson, Group Managing Director, Gallagher Channel Islands, said of Abigail’s win: “We’re absolutely thrilled to see Abigail recognised with the Insurance Award at the Jersey Finance Rising Stars. She brings exceptional dedication, professionalism, and heart to everything she does, both for her clients and her colleagues. This recognition is so well deserved, and we couldn’t be prouder of her achievements. Congratulations, Abigail!"

Presented by our own Natasha Lucock, the award marked only the second time the Insurance category has been recognised at these prestigious awards, making Abigail’s win even more special. With strong competition from fellow nominees Jordy Mercks and Ross Davis, it was a fantastic night for the team. We caught up with Abigail to hear her reaction and reflections on the big win…

Were you surprised to win this prestigious award? What was your reaction? who was the first person you called?

I was thrilled and very surprised when I heard my name announced as the winner for this year’s Rising Stars Award in Insurance. I was immensely proud to be nominated and shortlisted alongside my colleagues, and the entire experience is something that will not be easily forgotten. I was supported by my partner on the night, who couldn’t have been prouder of me and my win. I shared the news with my friends and family who congratulated me, also.

What does this award mean to you?

Receiving the Rising Stars Award signifies recognition of hard work and dedication. It also provides me with motivation to continue to strive and maintain excellence.

What advice would you give to anyone else considering or about to embark on a career in insurance?

Considering a career in insurance is not something a lot of people think about doing. Most people seem to ‘fall’ into a career in insurance, in one way or another. Insurance can be rewarding, as the industry offers diverse opportunities and the chance to make a meaningful impact on lives and businesses.

Why do you think it is important that the insurance sector is represented at these Jersey Finance Awards?

Participation in such awards increases visibility for the insurance industry, helping to raise awareness about its importance and the diverse opportunities it offers. It can also educate the public and other sectors about the critical role insurance plays in financial planning and stability.

What’s next for you?

I am expecting a baby boy in August, so that I will be temporarily stepping away from the world of insurance and into the world of motherhood. I will be returning from maternity leave in 2026, ready to dive back into my role and develop further.
