We are delighted to welcome Gwyn Parks to the team in Guernsey as a Business Development Executive.
Gwyn recently moved to the Island following nearly 10 years in professional sport, including playing rugby for Nottingham Rugby, and has now begun a new chapter in his career.
Just a few weeks into the role, we caught up with him to find out more about what brought him to Guernsey, the experience he brings and how he is settling into Island life.
What brought you to Guernsey and this next stage of your career?
I moved to Guernsey because I was ready for a new professional direction and wanted to challenge myself outside the world of professional sport. At the same time,
I had the opportunity to play rugby with the Guernsey Raiders, so the move gave me the chance to start a new career whilst still staying connected to a sport that has been such a big part of my life.
It felt like an exciting next step, both professionally and personally, and a chance to build something new here in Guernsey.
What skills and experience are you bringing with you into the role?
Professional sport has taught me a lot, particularly resilience, teamwork and how to perform under pressure. Those are all qualities that I think transfer well into business.
My role is very much about people too. It involves getting out and meeting new and prospective clients, understanding what they need and what is important to them, and then working with the wider team to help find the right insurance solutions.
What attracted you to join our team?
I was ready for another challenge and wanted to put myself outside my comfort zone. The way the team here spoke about the opportunity for Gallagher to continue growing in Guernsey really stood out to me, and it was something I wanted to be part of.
Guernsey is a close-knit community, and Gallagher combines that strong local focus with the knowledge and resources of a global business. There is also a real affinity with rugby, sport and supporting local communities, which really appealed to me and fits closely with my own values.
What have you enjoyed most about the role so far?
Getting out and meeting people has definitely been one of the highlights. I’ve enjoyed attending events, starting to build relationships and getting to know more people across the Island.
I’ve also really enjoyed learning more about the insurance industry and seeing just how much we can offer clients in terms of expertise, knowledge and the quality of the support available.
What are you most looking forward to as you settle into the team?
I’m looking forward to building a strong network, developing myself professionally and becoming more involved in the Guernsey community.
What have you enjoyed most about living and working in Guernsey so far?
Everyone has been so friendly and there is a real sense of community here. That has carried through into my working life as well, which has made settling in much easier.
