Meet Jordy one of our Rising Stars nominees

We’re proud to see Jordy Mercks, Assistant Manager in our Personal Insurance team, recognised as one of the shortlisted nominees in this year’s Jersey Finance Rising Stars awards.
These awards celebrate the next generation of talent across Jersey’s financial services sector, and Jordy’s nomination is a well-earned reflection of his professionalism, energy, and commitment to delivering excellent service for our clients.
We caught up with Jordy for a quick Q&A to find out more about his journey so far, what motivates him, and what the nomination means to him.
What attracted you to apply for a role at Rossborough/ Gallagher?
I was previously already working in insurance as a Claims Handler, but wanted more work/ responsibilities. When I found out about the potential roles at Rossborough Personal Lines, I was interested and thought I would be a good fit as an assistant manager for Personal Lines and assisting Gareth.
Did you know much about what an insurance career would entail before you applied?
I already knew what to expect from a career in insurance as I was previously working at Islands Insurance as a Claims Handler, which gave me quite some insight into how the insurance industry worked.
What does your day-to-day role entail?
I manage Personal Lines alongside Gareth, which contains duties like:
- I have become the first point of contact for staff in Personal Lines, supporting brokers with queries, helping the team manage day-to-day tasks and making sure all work is dealt with promptly.
- Delegating urgent matters to brokers. Making sure all is in order with client visits and that visits are logged.
- Dealing with any potential Dissatisfactions/complaints we receive from clients, making sure these are dealt with swiftly and professionally. And most importantly, supporting Gareth Wheatley with his workload if any help is needed.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
Working with the team we have in Personal Lines, which is a very strong, close team.
Have you undertaken CPD/ Qualifications/ Training? How has this helped you to perform your role?
We have frequent training in Personal Lines, which has helped massively in my role to make sure my skills and knowledge with the system and products stay up to date.
Where do you see yourself in two, five, or ten years?
I always try to progress as much as I possibly can, so hopefully in a role with more responsibilities, with a focus on leadership.
Can you tell me about a time when you’ve gone above and beyond for a client/customer or for a colleague?
In terms of colleagues, I always try to go above and beyond to help with any queries or difficult customers.
In terms of clients, there has been a few times where we have had customers come in to query their renewal prices as it had gone up by nearly 100% and I had contacted the insurers directly to liaise and discuss these increases and on quite a few occasions have managed to bring it down to more reasonable prices. Which in turn the clients were very happy with, and stayed with Rossborough.
Why is delivering great client service so important?
Delivering great customer service to all clients is important for the business, so our clients feel looked after and they have peace of mind, which in turn will encourage them to stay with us (retaining clients is important, especially in the insurance industry).
It directly impacts a company’s profitability and long-term success. Builds a positive perception of the company and creates a loyal customer base, which leads to increased sales.
What makes Rossborough/ Gallagher a special place to work?
Diversity across all departments
Away from work, what are you passionate about?
Sports and gym, staying healthy and in great shape.
